Conference Highlights

On 7th November 2017, we were delighted to welcome over one hundred and seventy young people along to our 2017 Annual Conference at the Rochester Corn Exchange. The morning saw young people carrying out three workshops:

• Workshop A – Focusing on ideas on how we tackle bullying and how it should be treated – where can young people go for help and from? Who should be helping?

• Workshop B – What is bullying? Types of bullying, and young people’s experiences.

• Workshop C - Why do people bully and do we punish or help?

The afternoon session then saw the young people hearing from Councillor Nick Bowler who spoke about his own personal bullying experience, which helped young people to hear about how bullying can be tackled. Lunch was provided by the young people at Woodlands Youth Centre, who worked all morning to provide a delicious lunch. We also welcomed James Okulaja to perform his new single ‘Black and White’, which the young people enjoyed.

The Question and answer session in the afternoon welcomed Andrew Minchin (Headteacher at The Robert Napier School), Tina Lovey (CEO of the Rivermead Inclusive Trust), James Okulaja (UK Youth Anti-Bullying Ambassador), and A. Insp Duke (Kent Police). There were a variety of questions that were asked surrounding bullying and how the police and schools can work to tackle bullying.
